Where Swindon roads will be shut as £1m spent on resurfacing
Swindon Borough Council plans £1m of resurfacing work across 18 residential streets from mid‑July to late August, following a recent roundabout project. Roads will close during daytime hours while crews complete resurfacing, pothole repairs, markings and signal maintenance. Residents generally support the need for repairs but anticipate traffic disruption and delays. The council aims to prevent more expensive future maintenance by addressing the roads now.

Thousands of new solar panels planned for Wiltshire military base
Wiltshire Council approved plans for 3,582 solar panels at the Ministry of Defence site in Lyneham to power a new technical training school and accommodation block. Local parish representatives raised concerns about flooding, leading to drainage conditions and a subsequent drainage strategy from the MoD. The project joins other proposed solar installations across Wiltshire, including a National Trust site, while larger schemes such as the Lime Down Solar Farm have faced controversy.
