North Somerset offenders sentenced in Magistrates' Court
North Somerset Magistrates’ Court sentenced several offenders for offences including drug-driving, cannabis possession, threatening behaviour, drink-driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, sexual communication with minors and theft. Penalties included fines, costs, compensation, driving bans, community orders, rehabilitation requirements, electronic monitoring and, in one case, a suspended custodial sentence with registration as a sex offender and a sexual harm prevention order.

Work complete at busy junction in Weston-super-Mare
North Somerset Council has completed a major upgrade of the traffic signals at the Milton Road and Ashcombe Road junction in Weston-super-Mare. Funded through the Department for Transport’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, the project replaced outdated equipment with energy-efficient LED signals, overhead traffic detection and improved cyclist and bus-priority features. The changes are intended to improve safety, reliability and accessibility while supporting cycling, bus travel and wider sustainable transport improvements near Milton Park Primary School.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for information after the phrase “life is short” was spray-painted at multiple locations in Weston-super-Mare. Officers are seeking witnesses and CCTV, doorbell-camera or dashcam footage, and ask anyone with information to contact police on 101 using crime reference 5226220724.

Residents warned after increase in anti-social driving
Avon and Somerset Police and North Somerset Council are increasing enforcement against dangerous and anti-social driving, particularly around Clevedon hotspots including Royal Sands, Sand Bay and Salt House. Unauthorised car meets have contributed to dangerous driving, excessive noise and disruption. In the first six months of 2026, vehicle seizures and traffic offence reports increased compared with the same period in 2025. Offenders may receive Section 59 warnings, vehicle seizures or £75 fines for breaching public-space protection orders, while residents are encouraged to report incidents online.

Three arrested after burglary in Weston-super-Mare
Three males were arrested after a July 20 burglary in Weston-super-Mare during which three masked individuals allegedly forced entry into a home and stole a games console, designer clothing and sunglasses. The suspects remain in custody at Bridgwater Police Centre while police enquiries continue.

A370 closure: Police issue statement as road closed by crash
The A370 near Flax Bourton in Somerset was closed in both directions after a car struck and brought down a telephone pole. Avon and Somerset Police arrested one person on suspicion of driving while unfit and drink-driving. One person was taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary, but police said no one was seriously injured. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes while delays continued.

Fire crews respond to blaze in The Grand Atlantic Hotel
A fire was reported at the Grand Atlantic Hotel on Beach Road in Weston-super-Mare on July 23. Crews from Weston-super-Mare and Avonmouth found the blaze extinguished, dampened the area and secured the scene. A search confirmed that everyone was accounted for and no injuries were reported. The South Western Ambulance Service also attended with an ambulance and an operations officer.
