Yorkshire nurses face hospital nightmare as disaster strikes in emergency department
A burst ceiling pipe at Barnsley Hospital’s emergency department released water and steam, brought down part of the ceiling and forced staff to evacuate patients from the affected area. Three fire engines attended because staff initially feared the substance could be gas. Nurses moved patients, trollies and equipment into corridors while the department continued treating people in a full waiting room. No one was injured, and service manager Lindsey and Sister Jo helped the team restore limited operations after electrical problems were resolved.
