First Minister asks for military help amid Cairngorms wildfire
First Minister John Swinney has asked the UK Government for military aerial support as a major wildfire continues to burn in the Cairngorms National Park. More than 500 firefighters, specialist vehicles, helicopters and partner agencies are responding, while residents and campsites near Nethy Bridge have been evacuated. Authorities say changing winds and fire conditions remain dangerous, with smoke advisories in place. Local community representative Sandy McCook criticized the Scottish Government’s earlier assurances that sufficient resources were available and that the fire was contained.
