‘Living nightmare’ as family faces £31,000 bill to bring seriously ill grandmother home from Turkey
Seventy-five-year-old June Redman from Middlesbrough became critically ill during a family holiday in Turkey after a fall, developing sepsis, pneumonia and kidney problems before being placed in an induced coma and undergoing a tracheotomy. She is now conscious and slowly recovering in intensive care at Ahu Hospital in Marmaris, but her family says an air ambulance home would cost £31,500. The family claims Goodtogo Travel Insurance is covering only 21.28% of the costs because it disputes whether medical conditions, including COPD and other treatments, were declared. Ancile Insurance Group says it cannot discuss the details but is working with the family. Relatives have raised £7,000, including more than £2,000 through GoFundMe, and are appealing for further donations to bring June home for treatment in Middlesbrough.
