Grant funding joy for dementia exercise group
A Barnsley exercise group supporting people with dementia and physical challenges has been launched with £3,600 in funding from South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation. Run at Emmanuel Methodist Church in partnership with Barnsley Independent Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support, the weekly sessions attract around 25 participants and promote social connection alongside physical activity. The initiative recently received a Certificate of Recognition for its community impact, with organisers highlighting the programme’s role in reducing isolation and encouraging wider involvement in church activities.

Business grant breakthrough for apprentice’s new events enterprise
A Sheffield apprentice used a £500 SWEF Enterprise Fund grant from South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation to launch studybreak, a social enterprise providing events for apprentices. The funding supported materials and promotion, helping the project grow from its first event of 12 attendees to more than 150 participants and over 40 regular members. Popular activities include clay modelling, baking and games, and expansion beyond Sheffield is planned.
