Mali: Presidential pardon for alleged French spy Yann Vézilier
French national Yann Vézilier, sentenced in Mali to 20 years for allegedly plotting a coup and working for French intelligence, has received a presidential pardon from Assimi Goïta. France has rejected the espionage accusations as unfounded and has not yet commented on the decision. The case comes amid worsening Islamist violence, political repression, the dissolution of Mali’s political parties, delayed elections and an extension of the military transition that could keep Goïta in power until at least 2030.
