Vile predator dubbed 'Coronation Street rapist' prison cause of death confirmed
Serial rapist Andrew Davies, also known as Andrew Barlow and Andrew Longmire, died from natural causes at HMP Moorland on 28 February 2026, according to the Prison Service. He had received 13 life sentences for raping women and other offenses across northern England, was released in 2023 after 34 years in prison, and was recalled six weeks later after breaching licence conditions and being assessed as posing a very high risk of further sexual offending. His parole and release had prompted anger from victims, relatives and politician Graham Stringer, while then Justice Minister Dominic Raab had sought a reconsideration of the release decision. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate the death.
