Tiny Plastic Pellets Wash Up on Yorkshire Coast After Huge River Spillage
Plastic nurdles have been found in small concentrated pockets on beaches between Marske and Redcar, weeks after the Wind Orca–BG Orange collision released millions of pellets into the River Tyne. Redcar and Cleveland Council is working with partner organizations and volunteers on targeted removals, while assessing whether mechanical equipment can be used safely. The discovery comes amid criticism of Solis Marine over reportedly dismissing casual cleanup workers; Mayor Kim McGuinness has demanded clarification and warned that it is too early to scale back the recovery operation.
