In Georgia, a Russian‑speaking tourist was hit: what witnesses say about the real cause of the hotel conflict
A tourist was assaulted at a hotel in Georgia’s Kakheti region, prompting conflicting narratives about whether the attack was motivated by her use of the Russian language or triggered by provocations attributed to the group she was with. Witnesses and Georgia’s Interior Ministry report that the tourists insulted wedding guests and damaged audio equipment by throwing liquids from a balcony, while the victim and her companions deny any provocation. The assailant, Giorgi Chigladze, the groom’s brother, expressed regret in court and was released on bail. Hotel staff and both sides of the conflict present differing accounts of how the confrontation escalated and whether staff disclosed the tourists’ room number.
