South Holland District Council plans to formally object to Lincolnshire County Council’s new booking system for the county’s household waste recycling centres, arguing the scheme is unfair and may worsen access at the Spalding site. Councillors raised concerns about restrictive opening hours and the potential for increased fly‑tipping, though county officials and the Department for Food and Rural Affairs said there is no evidence the system would cause such an increase. The county council maintains the measure is necessary to reduce queues, manage traffic issues and ease pressure on the service.

Lincolnshire County Council approved the introduction of a booking system at 11 household waste recycling centres to address long queues and traffic issues, following rising confrontation between staff and frustrated customers and a sharp increase in waste volumes since 2021. The system, expected to cost about £30,000 annually, will provide controlled, staggered access and allow residents to choose quieter times. A previous incident in June saw a local business block a tip entrance in protest over traffic disruption, prompting renewed calls for action.
