Vlad Polishy Independently and Without Protection Rescued the Wounded from the Kill Zone: Who He Is and Why He Did It
Twenty-nine-year-old junior lieutenant Vladyslav Polishy, a former science teacher from Zaporizhzhia and commander in Ukraine’s 475th Separate Assault Regiment CODE 9.2, personally drove an unarmored civilian pickup into a drone-saturated kill zone to rescue two severely wounded soldiers. A ground robotic evacuation vehicle carrying the soldiers had been destroyed, leaving them exposed and unable to move before daylight. Polishy decided that a rapid pickup evacuation offered their only realistic chance of survival, and transferred them to medics before returning to duty. He explains that his prior experience in evacuation and combat medicine, along with the need for speed and maneuverability, led him to leave his helmet and body armor behind, although commanders warned him not to repeat the risk. The wounded soldiers remained in serious but stable condition, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later awarded Polishy the title Hero of Ukraine.

Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Offensive in the Oleksandrivka Direction: What Is Known and What Are the Prospects
Ukraine’s counteroffensive in the Oleksandrivka direction, conducted in two phases from late January to early August 2026, reportedly brought 745 square kilometers under Ukrainian control and cleared another 300 square kilometers of Russian infiltrators. Ukrainian forces say they liberated 26 villages and removed Russian troops from Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, while also reducing the threat to Zaporizhzhia and moving closer to the key Velyka Novosilka–Huliaipole logistics route. Russian claims to have captured several settlements are disputed by Ukrainian commanders and OSINT analysts, who say Russian troops staged flag-raising videos after brief infiltrations rather than establishing control. A further Ukrainian advance of roughly 5–10 kilometers could place Russian supply routes under effective fire control, but achieving that outcome may require reserves and could prompt Russia to reinforce the sector.

Conflict between Fedorov and Syrskyi: What Really Happened
Tensions between former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi became public after Fedorov criticized Syrskyi following his resignation. The conflict stemmed from disputes over procurement reforms, strategic approaches, influence within the defense establishment and personal rivalry amplified by media attention. Several military commanders defended Fedorov’s reforms, citing improved transparency and communication, while Syrskyi’s camp reacted sharply to accusations of undermining unity. President Volodymyr Zelenskyi ultimately backed Syrskyi, valuing his communication style and alignment with presidential expectations. The episode mirrors earlier tensions between defense officials, and some sources suggest Syrskyi’s future may also be uncertain following Fedorov’s departure.

Compared to nuclear weapons: How Ukraine is creating combat AI and what it can already do
Ukraine accelerates the development of military artificial intelligence, integrating it into reconnaissance and strike drones, defensive systems and broader battlefield decision-making tools. The Ministry of Defence’s AI Center, led by Danilo Tsivok, focuses on creating a digital twin of the battlefield, improving data analysis and enabling faster, more accurate targeting and operational planning. Ukrainian AI-driven drones have already disrupted Russian logistics in Crimea, while ongoing work aims to expand autonomy, develop predictive operational systems and introduce functional drone swarms by the end of the year. Ukraine selectively shares limited datasets with partners such as Palantir to refine models while keeping control of core battlefield data. AI adoption is expected to expand rapidly, shaping future warfare through autonomous systems, operational planning tools and multi-domain decision-support platforms.

Russia claimed capturing Kostyantynivka. How did Ukrainian authorities respond?
Russia announced it had captured the Ukrainian city of Kostyantynivka, a claim supported by Valeriy Gerasimov in a report to Vladimir Putin. Ukraine rejected the assertion, stating that its forces still control parts of the city and continue defensive operations. OSINT projects DeepState and the Institute for the Study of War also disputed Russia’s claim, indicating that only limited areas are under Russian control and that fighting continues. Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Moscow’s statements as misinformation intended to influence Western audiences ahead of U.S. Independence Day. Ukrainian authorities report ongoing counter-sabotage actions and assert that Russian advances consist mainly of small infiltration groups rather than full occupation.

ZSU attack the “Dubna” Space Communication Center near Moscow: what it is and whether Russia’s space communications can be disrupted
Ukraine has conducted repeated drone strikes on the Russian Dubna Space Communication Center near Moscow, targeting key satellite communication infrastructure including the MARK-IV antenna and associated technical buildings. Additional strikes have hit similar facilities in Vladimir Oblast and Crimea. Damage to antennas and control centers may complicate Russian military communications and satellite management, though experts note Russia retains other centers across its territory and can rely partly on Chinese navigation support. The attacks focus on degrading Russia’s satellite capabilities, particularly the Express constellation used for military communications, but fully disabling Russian space communication remains difficult due to redundancy and geographic dispersion of infrastructure.
