Brit great-gran in intensive care in Turkey after fall in hotel on first day of holiday
Seventy-five-year-old June Redman remains in intensive care at Ahu Hospital in Marmaris after falling at a hotel during a family holiday in Turkey. She later developed dangerously low blood pressure, sepsis, pneumonia and kidney failure, but has emerged from an induced coma and is showing gradual improvement after a tracheotomy. Her family wants to bring her home to Middlesbrough by air ambulance, but says her travel insurer will cover only 21.28% of the cost, leaving £31,500 to raise. The family has raised £7,000 so far and is seeking further donations while warning travelers about the importance of fully disclosing medical conditions. Ancile Insurance Group said it was supporting the family and working to resolve the claim.

What to Do if You Looked Directly at the Solar Eclipse Without Proper Protection
Looking directly at a solar eclipse without certified filters can damage the retina and macula, potentially causing solar retinopathy and permanent central vision loss. Symptoms may be delayed by hours or days and can include blurred or distorted vision, dark spots, altered colour vision, light sensitivity and reduced sight. Optometrists advise anyone experiencing symptoms or feeling that their vision is abnormal to seek assessment promptly. There is no specific treatment, although many cases heal naturally; the likelihood and speed of recovery depend on the duration and intensity of exposure.

Teenager, 15, who sped on e-scooter is spared jail over horrific crash that killed pal
A 15-year-old boy received an 18‑month youth referral order and a five‑year driving ban after riding an e‑scooter through a red light in Wythenshawe, crashing into a car and causing the death of 14‑year‑old Jacob Calland. The court found he had been travelling at high speed in the scooter’s ‘Turbo mode’ and had limited ability to assess risk due to a traumatic upbringing and lack of training. Jacob’s mother delivered an emotional statement describing her family’s devastation. The judge stressed rehabilitation over custody for the youth. Police urged parents to understand the dangers of e‑scooters and ensure children are educated about the risks.
