Dad died 'trying to rescue his children' in double Seaton Carew sea tragedy
Two men died at Seaton Carew beach in Hartlepool after entering rough water to help children caught in a riptide. One victim was the children’s father, who tried to rescue them, while the second man entered the sea while walking his dog and also drowned. Rescuer Davey Short helped bring one of the children to safety and described chaotic conditions and the family's distress. All three children survived. Emergency services, including Cleveland Police and RNLI lifeboats, responded, and police are supporting the affected families while enquiries for the coroner continue.
