Raleigh Owner Files for Insolvency with UK Bikemaker at Risk
Accell UK and Ireland, the subsidiary responsible for British bicycle brand Raleigh, has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators as Netherlands-based parent company Accell Group begins insolvency proceedings. Accell bought Raleigh in 2012 and later shifted the brand’s focus toward electric bikes, although Raleigh’s head office remains in Nottinghamshire. After restructuring, securing additional funding, reducing debt and exploring potential buyers, Accell said it could not find a viable solution to continue in its current form. Chief executive Jonas Nilsson said the group’s priority is an orderly process that preserves viable activities and employment where possible.
