Love Island star confirmed as 5th celebrity on Strictly 2026
Cach Mercer, a recent Love Island winner and popular TikTok creator, has been announced as the fifth confirmed contestant for Strictly Come Dancing 2026. He joins a lineup that includes Lacey Turner, Dani Dyer, Delta Goodrem and Chris Appleton. The series will also introduce new hosts Johannes Radebe, Emma Willis and Josh Widdicombe when it returns on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in September.

EU rejects calls for EES to be suspended despite disruptions
The EU has refused requests from major airlines and industry groups to suspend the new Entry/Exit System despite long queues and operational disruptions at European airports. Airlines and airport operators warn of delays, malfunctioning biometric booths and missed connections, while some national leaders have threatened partial suspensions. EU officials argue a full suspension is neither necessary nor feasible, citing limited problem areas and plans to press member states to reduce congestion. More than 30,000 travellers have already been denied entry under the new system, and the separate ETIAS visa pre-authorisation scheme has been delayed until 2027.

Passport power rankings for 2026 revealed - how the UK fared
The 2026 Global Passport Index ranks the United Kingdom eighth, highlighting strong scores in investment potential and quality of life alongside visa-free access to 114 countries. Sweden leads the rankings, followed by Switzerland and Finland. The index evaluates 200 countries on mobility, economic opportunity, and quality of life. Despite broad travel freedom, UK passport holders still require visas for around 15 countries. The UK maintains the same position it held in the 2025 rankings.
