Armed police arrested a 28‑year‑old man in Rotherham on suspicion of murdering former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe, who was found bludgeoned to death in her Devon home. CCTV footage is being examined after appearing to show the suspect placing a wooden stick into his car on the day of the killing. Residents described a large armed police presence during the arrest and characterised the suspect as increasingly withdrawn following his father’s death. Devon and Cornwall Police stated there is no current indication of political or terrorist motivation and confirmed no other suspects are being sought while over 120 public information submissions are being reviewed.
