Gold chains worth £100,000 stolen during robbery in Liskeard
Around £100,000 worth of gold chains were stolen from Diamonds and Gems in the St Cleer area near Liskeard after two men reportedly attended to buy jewellery. Fears raised over pollution dredging at Falmouth Docks
Cornwall Wildlife Trust has warned that planned dredging for the £150 million Falmouth Docks redevelopment could release contaminated sediment into the Fal Estuary and Falmouth Bay. The charity says only 21 core samples cover more than 232,000 square metres and that many samples contain potentially unsafe pollutants, including heavy metals and tributyl tin. It is also concerned about impacts on marine habitats, fisheries, protected species and underwater noise from up to 50 weeks of pile driving. The Trust supports redevelopment in principle but has submitted a holding objection and is calling for more detailed environmental scrutiny before Cornwall Council considers the planning application. A person suffered a medical episode while in the sea at Porthcothan beach in north Cornwall. Surf school instructors and RNLI lifeguards brought the casualty ashore, while coastguard, ambulance, police and air ambulance crews coordinated the response.
