Council officers seize more than 50 banned disposable barbecues from Hull stores
Hull City Council trading standards officers seized 53 disposable barbecues from five retailers during visits to more than 60 premises. The action followed the UK government's temporary nationwide ban on sales because of heightened wildfire risks after prolonged hot, dry weather. Two suspension notices were issued, further checks are planned, and residents are being asked to report retailers still selling the products. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service supports the ban, citing the risk of fires, lingering heat, harm to wildlife and environmental damage.

Too Many East Yorkshire Communities Left Cut Off, Transport Survey Finds
A transport survey led by Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart has found that rural communities in Holderness and wider East Yorkshire are being isolated by unreliable buses, poor links to Hull and Beverley, and inadequately repaired roads. Residents reported missed hospital appointments, difficulty reaching work and reliance on costly taxis, despite many households depending on cars. Stuart plans to publish the full findings in September and present them to the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, transport operators and government ministers. Mayor Luke Campbell said his team was developing solutions, including concessionary fares and a bookable minibus service, while the survey remains open for further responses.
