The £77m upgrade of the A582 between Lostock Hall and Penwortham will not begin for at least another year as Lancashire County Council prepares a full business case for Department for Transport approval. Despite surviving recent national transport project cuts tied to defence spending reallocations, construction is now anticipated for summer 2027. The council says the scheme will reduce congestion, improve travel times and enhance facilities for buses, pedestrians and cyclists, with revisions made following public engagement.

Preston City Council is considering further changes to household bin collection schedules after widespread problems followed an April overhaul linked to the national rollout of weekly food waste collections. Delayed delivery of suitable collection vehicles and operational issues have led to repeated missed collections in several areas, prompting complaints from residents and councillors. The council expects additional vehicles in August and is reviewing routes and schedules to stabilise the service.
