Liverpool confirm loan transfer as £47m agreement reached over move
Liverpool have confirmed Ronald Araújo’s season-long loan move from Barcelona, with Liverpool covering his wages and holding a £47 million option to buy him permanently without paying a loan fee. The versatile Uruguay defender is expected to provide cover at centre-back and right-back amid injuries to Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni, while Jeremy Jacquet has yet to return from a shoulder injury. Araújo’s experience, leadership and previous role as Barcelona captain were key factors in the deal. Liverpool are also continuing negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over winger Bradley Barcola, whose reported £140 million valuation could be reduced.
