US designates Palestine Action a terrorist group
The United States has sanctioned and designated the UK-based group Palestine Action as a terrorist organization, accusing it of supporting acts that injured law-enforcement personnel and targeted commercial enterprises. The sanctions freeze the group's US-linked assets. Co-founder Huda Ammori condemned the designation as hypocritical and a threat to free speech. The group is already banned in the UK, but it has permission to appeal that decision to the Supreme Court; more than 2,000 people face potential trials for protesting the ban, while four members were jailed over a factory raid that caused extensive damage and injured a police officer.
