Man convicted of horror knife spree on primary kids that left girl in a wheelchair and sparked riots
A man was convicted in Dublin’s Central Criminal Court of attempting to murder three young children and seriously injuring a care worker in a 2023 knife attack that left one girl permanently disabled. The attack, carried out with a carving knife after the assailant became upset over social welfare issues, sparked riots in the city. Jurors unanimously found him guilty on eight counts, including attempted murder and assault causing serious harm. Evidence presented detailed deliberate targeting of small children and severe injuries inflicted. The defendant’s cognitive impairments and fitness to stand trial were examined but ultimately deemed not to preclude prosecution. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 12, when victim impact statements will be delivered.
