Concerns over late night opening of Wetherspoons pub in Norwich
Norwich City Council approved a one-year trial allowing The Glasshouse, a JD Wetherspoon pub on Wensum Street, to extend its Friday and Saturday opening hours from 01:30 to 02:30 and remain open later on selected occasions. Residents and the council’s environmental protection officer, Tom Dawson, warned that noise and longer hours could harm nearby residents and encourage other venues to seek similar extensions. JD Wetherspoon cited strong customer demand and its policy of addressing complaints, while Norfolk Police raised no concerns and said there had been no noise complaints since 2012. The pub will still require approval from the council’s licensing committee.
