Perthshire visitor centre closes car park overnight after “irresponsible” blaze
Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre near Dunkeld has restricted car park access to its 10:30am–5pm opening hours after several incidents of irresponsible behaviour, including a fire set just metres from the visitor centre. The Scottish Wildlife Trust says the measure will allow staff to monitor the site, while the reserve’s hides remain accessible on foot outside opening hours. Local councillors Claire McLaren and Ian James support the decision, warning that barbecues and campfires pose heightened risks during dry weather and calling for greater respect for rural environments and updated access legislation.
