A man previously convicted of assaulting his estranged wife was sentenced to 24 years in prison for attempting to murder her by deliberately driving into her and repeatedly hitting her with a baseball bat in Hull. He had tracked her address by breaking into a Royal Mail depot and breaching a restraining order. Passers-by intervened and restrained him, preventing her death. The victim suffered severe injuries and continues to recover, while police and the court condemned the attack as calculated and cruel, with commendations issued to those who assisted her.

A long-abandoned theme park in Cleethorpes may be transformed into a £70 million holiday resort featuring a Lidl supermarket, hotels, lodges, retail units and leisure facilities. North East Lincolnshire Council officers have recommended approval for the redevelopment, which is projected to create about 400 permanent jobs and another 400 during construction. Environmental and traffic assessments raised no serious concerns, despite objections from rival retailers and some residents. Developers and local officials say the project would boost tourism, improve the area’s appearance and support the local economy.
