Four people from Leeds—a baby girl, two women aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man—died after a red Hyundai carrying five people left the A38 near Willington, Derbyshire, and collided with trees. The 33-year-old driver survived with serious injuries and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Police have appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage while supporting the relatives of those involved.

A public memorial service for Ann Widdecombe will be held later in the year following her death from severe head injuries at her home in Devon on 9 July. A private funeral for family and close friends will take place first. Joshua Kerry, 28, has been charged with her murder, with prosecutors alleging he attacked her with a hammer after entering her bungalow. Investigators are assessing whether political or terrorist motives played a role. Widdecombe previously served as a Conservative MP, a prisons minister, an MEP for the Brexit Party and was a Reform UK spokeswoman at the time of her death.
