The secret black women codebreakers who cracked Soviet nuclear secrets during the Cold War
An overlooked group of Black women codebreakers working in segregated and harsh conditions at Arlington Hall played a crucial role in uncovering Soviet nuclear activities during the Cold War. Their analysis of seemingly mundane intercepted messages revealed the construction of secret nuclear cities and contributed to major intelligence efforts such as the Venona Project. Some later rose to senior positions, but most remained unrecognized until recently, with new research highlighting their contributions to US national security and Cold War history.
