Wakefield Trinity v Leeds Rhinos: Top two derby rivals prepared for ultimate Super League test
League leaders Leeds Rhinos travel to second-placed Wakefield Trinity for a sold-out Super League derby at Belle Vue. Wakefield have won seven consecutive games and hold a 2-1 advantage over Leeds in their last three meetings, though both sides have won once against each other this season. Leeds coach Brad Arthur praised Wakefield’s coaching, teamwork, attacking play and home form, while insisting his own players are prepared for the intensity of the occasion. Teenage forward Zak Lloyd remains in the squad after an impressive debut, and Leeds expect captain Ash Handley to return from appendicitis. Wakefield could recall Lachlan Walmsley and Mike McMeeken, subject to the latter’s recovery from a back problem. The derby begins a demanding period that could significantly influence Leeds’ season.

Zak Lloyd on his delight at Leeds Rhinos debut and his ambitions going forward
Teenage forward Zak Lloyd described his nerves and excitement after making his Leeds Rhinos and Betfred Super League debut as a substitute in the club’s 46-0 win over Toulouse Olympique. After progressing from Siddal through Leeds’ scholarship, academy and reserves and gaining loan experience with Hunslet, Lloyd said the first-team environment, crowd and physical intensity were significant steps up. He credited Brad Arthur and Chev Walker for trusting and encouraging him, and hopes to earn more appearances during Leeds’ remaining six regular-season matches by continuing to perform in training, the reserves and the first team.

Leeds Rhinos moved two points clear at the top of the Betfred Super League with a 42-12 derby victory over Bradford Bulls, but lost leading try-scorer Maika Sivo to a suspected broken forearm. Coach Brad Arthur expects Sivo to miss about six weeks, while rookie forward Ben Littlewood faces a further injury assessment after hurting his hamstring. Jake Connor played a pivotal role with seven conversions and a crucial 40-20 kick, and Leeds may soon welcome back Chris Hankinson, Ryan Hall and Ash Handley.
