Christmas Day murder caught on tape as neighbour killed in deadly noise row
James Hughes was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 years for murdering his neighbour Harry Turner during a long‑running noise dispute at their sheltered accommodation in St Asaph. A dictaphone recording captured Hughes beating and suffocating Turner after a morning of escalating threats and altercations. Court evidence showed Turner had been distressed and confrontational, but the jury found Hughes used unreasonable force. The judge described Hughes’ actions as callous, while police highlighted that the recording and Hughes’ own comments proved his guilt.
