In the border regions of northern Thailand, several ethnic minority tribes, including the Akha, face discrimination and lack Thai citizenship, which restricts their rights and opportunities. Lee Ayu Chuepa, an Akha man, has opened two coffee shops in Chiang Mai selling coffee from his tribe, helping to improve their livelihood. Despite the challenges, including accusations of deforestation and opium trade, Lee's initiative has allowed many Akha to return to their village, receive fair wages, and maintain their culture. The success of Akha Ama coffee has also raised awareness of Thailand's coffee quality internationally.
