Man due in court today after Scottish woman’s body found in suitcase in Greece
A man accused of killing Edinburgh woman Elisabeth Jane Ross and moving her body in a suitcase through Athens is due to appear before a Greek court. The suspect, widely identified by local media as 26-year-old Afghan boxer Sharif Ahmadzai, allegedly left Ross’s body near an abandoned building in Kypseli, where it was found two days later. Police say he faces murder and theft allegations, including allegedly taking more than €10,000 from Ross’s accounts, and that he admitted moving the body but denied killing her. Investigators are awaiting tissue-analysis results to clarify the cause of death, while Greek and Scottish authorities continue working with Ross’s family.

Dominick Anthony Occhicone was executed by lethal injection in Florida at age 80 for the 1986 murders of Raymond and Martha Artzner, becoming the state's oldest modern-era execution victim. His final appeal was unanimously rejected by the Florida Supreme Court. The execution followed that of James Duckett, creating Florida's first double execution since 1964. Florida has carried out an unusually large share of US executions since 2025 under Governor Ron DeSantis, despite a broader national decline in capital punishment.
