Brothers jailed for killing dad while racing cars home from Wales
Abubakr Ben Yusaf was sentenced to 14 years in prison and his brother Umar Ben Yusaf to two years and nine months after they were convicted over a fatal road collision near Welshpool in November 2024. The brothers had been racing from Aberystwyth to Manchester, driving dangerously and overtaking at excessive speed. Abubakr’s BMW crossed onto the wrong side of the road and struck a Toyota driven by rugby referee Rhys Jenkins, who died. Jenkins’s nine-year-old son Ioan suffered serious injuries and spent 10 days in hospital. Both brothers initially fled, although Umar returned within 40 minutes and identified the person responsible. Police said their competitive driving showed disregard for other road users and caused lasting harm to Jenkins’s family.

'Black Widow' Fraudster Flown to Manchester Airport After Tenerife Arrest
Convicted fraudster Pamela Gwinnett was returned to the UK through Manchester Airport after being arrested in Tenerife for absconding while awaiting trial. She had defrauded 89-year-old Joan Green of almost £300,000 by abusing her position as Green's carer, obtaining lasting power of attorney, isolating her from family and spending the money on personal luxuries. Gwinnett was convicted in her absence and sentenced to six years in prison, with an order to repay £300,000. She is due to appear at Preston Crown Court after her extradition, while police say her return may provide Green's family with a sense of justice.
