Manchester model Sofia Lips injected 20 syringes of dermal filler into her lips at home after salons refused to treat her, saying she wanted to restore an exaggerated “fake” appearance. She completed a short online course and bought the filler from an overseas retailer, despite warnings from NHS England that inadequate training can lead to infection, nerve damage or blindness. Lips said the procedure initially made eating and drinking difficult but remained pleased with the result and considered injecting other people. The case is presented alongside concerns about the growing online trend of unsupervised cosmetic injections and looksmaxxing, as well as her account of a previous botched procedure that nearly killed her.
