Raquel Camargo

I am a Toronto-based journalist, video producer and photographer, working in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

I started in journalism in 2007 covering music and culture, and went on to report for UOL, Brazil's largest news portal, where I was a reporter on the 2012 national election desk. My election reporting exposed the trade in bought Twitter followers and Facebook fans by political campaigns, and put a paid campaign jingle writer on the record about the six figures he received from a candidate. Between 2010 and 2015 I filed nineteen technology stories for TechTudo, the technology portal of Globo's G1, covering handsets, platforms and Campus Party. In 2019, reporting from the United Arab Emirates, I wrote and photographed a first-person feature for UOL on what it is actually like to use a public beach in Dubai as a foreign woman. During the pandemic, Brazilian public broadcaster Rede Minas invited me twice to record on-camera reports from Toronto.

I handle the full chain myself: research and pre-interviews, filming, sound, editing, and delivery. I produce podcasts and live broadcasts, and I have produced live programming with a sitting Brazilian state governor. For visiting crews I work as a fixer and producer, with access to Toronto's Brazilian, Portuguese-speaking and Latin American communities, among the largest in Canada. I am comfortable on camera and available for live phoners for radio and television.
