National park should be for the people, says former Brighton council leader
Former Brighton and Hove council leader Ken Bodfish, appointed as one of seven national members of the South Downs National Park Authority, says the park should serve residents, workers, visitors and nearby communities including Eastbourne, Brighton and Worthing. After decades of campaigning, Bodfish welcomed the park's creation and said he hoped his appointment reflected merit after losing a leadership position in 2008. The authority, covering an area from Winchester to Eastbourne and about 110,000 residents, is due to assume full responsibility in April 2011 and oversee promotion and planning within the park.
