Peru earthquake live: Lima, Ica and Cusco rocked by 7.2 tremors sparking avalanches
A powerful earthquake struck southern Peru, with the epicentre near Upahuacho in the Ayacucho region at a depth of about 66 kilometres. Initial reports described shaking in Ica, Cusco and surrounding areas, along with videos appearing to show landslides and avalanches. Authorities initially reported no fatalities, although later updates identified two people injured during evacuations, around 6,000 power users affected and damage to homes, health centres and a school. Regional schools were set to close for structural inspections, while the Peruvian Navy said there was no tsunami threat. Officials attributed the limited major damage partly to the earthquake's depth, but warned that vulnerable buildings and landslides remained risks.

Six-year-old Lucy Morgan of New Jersey died in June 2024 after a badminton racket allegedly broke during a family holiday in Limerick, Maine, sending a jagged piece of metal into her skull. Her parents, Bethany and Jesse Morgan, have sued manufacturer Franklin Sports, claiming the racket was inadequately secured and lacked sufficient safety warnings. The lawsuit seeks damages for funeral costs, financial losses and emotional distress, while the family's attorney alleges that a similar earlier injury should have prompted the company to improve the product.

Major update issued after Ryanair passenger's head 'sucked out of plane window mid-air'
Ryanair passenger Ljubiša Karović says he will sue the airline for millions after engine debris shattered the window beside him on a flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen. Passengers, including his wife Svetlana, restrained him as objects were pulled through the opening; he suffered burns and bruising and must wear a neck brace. The NTSB found that a broken Boeing 737 fan blade caused engine debris to shatter the window, while noting previous bird strikes to the same engine. Karović's lawyer disputes that explanation, questions aircraft maintenance and is considering claims against Ryanair, Boeing, maintenance companies and the engine manufacturer pending a final expert report.
