Morrisons becomes first UK supermarket to introduce major trolley change
Morrisons is trialling Instacart’s Caper smart trolleys at its Preston store, making it the first UK supermarket to introduce the technology. The AI-enabled trolleys recognise and weigh items as they are loaded, display a running basket total, suggest relevant products and apply Morrisons More Card discounts. Customers can complete payment by scanning a trolley-generated barcode at a dedicated checkout lane. The trial is intended to assess whether the technology improves convenience, spending visibility and the in-store shopping experience for customers in Preston and Lancashire.
