Drunk man shouted 'Hitler knew' and did Nazi salute on Jet2 flight
David Kelly, 56, was sentenced to ten months in prison after becoming drunk and abusive on a Jet2 flight from Turkey to Newcastle. He shouted racist and homophobic remarks, said “Hitler knew” while making a Nazi salute, targeted a Turkish passenger, and initially refused to sit down or fasten his seatbelt during landing. Passengers, including a young family, were distressed, while cabin crew managed the situation and alerted police. Kelly pleaded guilty to being drunk on an aircraft and racially aggravated public order offending. The judge cited the confined aircraft environment, safety risks and fear caused to passengers and crew as reasons for the immediate custodial sentence.
