Owners of Cats Kept Indoors Sent New Warning as Some Say 'Put Up Nets'
Blue Cross and Cats Protection are warning owners of indoor cats living one storey or higher to secure windows, doors and balconies during warm weather to prevent potentially fatal falls known as high-rise syndrome. Blue Cross hospitals in London and Grimsby have treated 33 cats this year after falls. Alliah Seed’s kitten survived a fifth-storey fall with a fractured toe, prompting her to plan to install protective mesh. The charities recommend secure netting or screens, avoiding unattended open windows, neutering cats to reduce roaming and providing indoor enrichment, particularly as a heatwave is expected to bring temperatures as high as 36C in parts of England.

Woman's periods changed — then she was fighting for her life in ICU
A woman whose menstrual cycle began changing developed a ruptured ovarian cyst, sepsis and a bowel obstruction that left part of her intestine wrapped around a fallopian tube. After collapsing in severe pain, she underwent multiple scans before emergency surgery removed damaged intestine and treated widespread infection. She spent three weeks in hospital, including time in intensive care, and required a long recovery period. Now fully recovered, she urges women to trust their instincts, push for medical answers and seek prompt care for symptoms that could indicate conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis or PCOS, warning that dismissed symptoms can quickly become life‑threatening.
