Cheshire dad’s Gran Canaria dream holiday turns to nightmare after ‘spewing blood’
A Cheshire man celebrating being cancer‑free suffered a severe medical emergency while on holiday in Gran Canaria, collapsing after vomiting blood by the pool. Local hospital staff initially attributed his condition to sunstroke, but continued bleeding prompted him to fly home, where doctors at Manchester Royal Infirmary diagnosed internal bleeding caused by an ulcer linked to previous pancreatic surgery. He underwent multiple blood transfusions and an operation, spending 18 days in hospital. Now recovering, he remains shaken by the ordeal and fearful of travelling again.
