A mummified body found in a caravan in Watchet was identified as convicted sex offender Richard Scatchard, who had been missing since the death of his partner, Kelly Faiers, in 2023. An inquest heard that Faiers was unlawfully killed after being coerced into taking an overdose, and investigators were unable to detect any signs that Scatchard was alive after mid-October 2023. Post-mortem findings were limited due to advanced decomposition, leaving the cause of his death unascertained, and the coroner issued an open conclusion. Police found no evidence of third-party involvement, and Scatchard had concealed his relationship from probation officers while facing potential recall to prison.
