An inquest heard that 71-year-old Anthony Buxton called emergency services after strangling his wife, Michelle, 69, at their home in Camelford, Cornwall, before fatally stabbing himself. Evidence described his worsening anxiety, paranoia and suspected delusions in the months beforehand, along with difficulties placing him within appropriate mental-health services. The coroner concluded that Michelle was unlawfully killed and that Anthony took his own life, while police found no evidence of third-party involvement.

Eight men, including Edinburgh resident Mohammed Sheikh Abdul Hannan and Dunoon resident Kevin Lawrence, appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court facing a total of 40 historical sexual exploitation offences. The charges follow Gwent Police’s Operation Oak investigation into alleged abuse reported by women who say they were abused as children between 1985 and 1996. The defendants were not asked to enter pleas and were released on conditional bail pending a Cardiff Crown Court hearing on August 21. A ninth man, Aminur Rahman Chowdhury, was also charged but did not appear.
