Families of Caitlin Hogg and Caitlin-Rose McMullan, who were killed by cars after leaving school buses in Northern Ireland, have welcomed proposed laws aimed at making school journeys safer. Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins plans to seek executive approval for legislation that would ban drivers from overtaking school buses while passengers board or leave on rural roads with a 60mph limit. The proposals are expected to reach the Northern Ireland Assembly in autumn, alongside a public awareness campaign urging drivers to slow down and remain alert around buses and children.
