New Wednesday, July 8 UKHSA message on EpiPens and asthma inhalers
UK health regulators warn that high temperatures can degrade medications including EpiPens, inhalers, insulin and certain antibiotics, reducing their effectiveness despite appearing unchanged. The UKHSA and MHRA urge the public to avoid exposing medicines to heat and highlight dehydration and overheating risks linked to common treatments such as diuretics, blood pressure drugs, insulin, antipsychotics and stimulants. Many medications can also increase sensitivity to sunlight, with methotrexate posing severe risks. People are advised to store medicines in cool locations, monitor for heat-related symptoms and seek professional advice if concerned.
