Lyme Regis council collected thousands on free parking days
Lyme Regis Town Council wrongly collected more than £10,000 in parking fees over two years on days when its car park was meant to be free, prompting complaints from traders and visitors. A Freedom of Information request from the Cobb Traders group revealed that parking charges were collected on all 12 designated free days between October 2024 and May 2026. Traders reported customer frustration and concerns about the town’s reputation. The town clerk apologised, citing failures to implement the usual process of signage and notification to enforcement officers, and offered refunds to affected drivers. Upcoming free parking dates were confirmed.

Rescued turtle Crush to fly to Azores for release into the wild
A loggerhead turtle named Crush, rescued in Jersey after Storm Goretti, has recovered following months of treatment at Weymouth Sea Life. Cleared for release, she will be flown 1,500 miles to the Azores, where she will spend time in a specialised facility before returning to the wild. Her rescue involved veterinary care in Jersey and transport to Southampton, and staff from Sea Life will accompany her on the final journey. Loggerhead turtles are listed as vulnerable, with very low survival rates to adulthood.

Rescued turtle Crush to fly to Azores for release into the wild
A loggerhead turtle named Crush, rescued in Jersey after being found cold-stunned and malnourished, has recovered sufficiently at Weymouth Sea Life centre to be released back into the wild. After undergoing scans and care from veterinary and animal‑care teams, she will be flown to the Azores, spend a short period in a local facility, and then be released into warmer waters. Loggerhead turtles are classed as vulnerable, with only a small number reaching adulthood, and Crush is believed to have been swept north by storm-driven currents.
