Ex-Dundee United star Brandon Forbes signs for Alloa
Brandon Forbes has joined Alloa Athletic after leaving Norwich City. The 20-year-old former Dundee United prospect made an immediate impact on his debut by setting up Owen Foster in Alloa's 2–1 KDM Evolution Trophy victory over Stranraer. Forbes previously scored for Dundee United's first team and spent time on loan with Tamworth and King's Lynn after featuring mainly for Norwich's under-21 side. Alloa manager Andy Graham praised the midfielder's performance while acknowledging that a largely new squad still needs time to develop, following the team's first competitive win of the season.

Sophie Thomas wins World Athletics U20 Championship silver
Eighteen-year-old Scottish sprinter Sophie Thomas won a silver medal for Great Britain in the mixed 4x100-metre relay at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships. Thomas and her teammates set a world age-group record of 41.60 seconds in the heats before running 41.38 in the final, finishing behind Italy and ahead of the United States. She also reached the 200-metre semi-finals, having entered the championships in strong form after setting Scottish under-20 records and a European-leading time.

Alloa hires ex-Wigan star Jason Scotland as an academy coach
Alloa Athletic has appointed former Trinidad and Tobago international and Wigan Athletic player Jason Scotland as its under-19s head coach. Scotland will work under head of youth Tony Massie, who remains the under-17s head coach, as part of a wider academy staffing plan for the 2026/27 season. Reece Watt, Kayi Birnie, David McCormack, Billy Watson and Jordan Gorman have also been appointed to coaching and support roles, reflecting the club’s stated commitment to developing young players and creating a pathway into senior football.

Sauchie suffer Scottish Cup exit to Whitletts Victoria
Sauchie Juniors were eliminated from the Scottish Gas Men’s Scottish Cup after Jordan Boyd’s goal gave Whitletts Victoria a 1–0 victory in Ayr. Sauchie had opened their league campaign with a 3–0 win over Thornton Hibs, but their cup run ended at the first preliminary-round stage. Iain Diack’s side are scheduled to continue their East of Scotland Qualifying Cup and Premier Division fixtures against Newburgh, Blackburn United and Newtongrange Star.

Alloa judoka Gabriella Wood fifth at Commonwealth Games
Trinidad and Tobago judoka and Judo Club Esprit coach Gabriella Wood finished joint-fifth in the women’s +78kg category at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. After losing to Cameroon’s Richelle Anita Soppi Mbella, Wood won her repechage bout against Togo’s Essohanam Noeline Koro before being defeated by Gabon’s Marthe Yokebed Gnacadja Avaro in the bronze-medal contest. The result matched Wood’s fifth-place finish at the 2022 Birmingham Games. Other Judo Club Esprit members also competed, while Jocelyn Callaghan participated in Team Scotland’s Achieve 2026 programme.

Alloa swimmer Duncan Scott reflects on Commonwealth Games
Duncan Scott described Scotland’s swimming campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games as very successful, while noting that the team narrowly missed additional medals. The Alloa swimmer won gold in the men’s 200-metre individual medley with a Games-record time and bronze in the mixed 4x100-metre medley relay. Scotland won 12 swimming medals overall, with Scott praising the country’s ability to outperform expectations and its continued production of world-class swimmers.

Alloa swimmer Duncan Scott wins Commonwealth Games gold
Alloa swimmer Duncan Scott won Scotland’s first gold medal of the 2026 Commonwealth Games by taking the men’s 200-metre individual medley in a Commonwealth Games-record time of 1:56.38. He finished ahead of New Zealand’s Lewis Clareburt and England’s Tom Dean, earning his fourth Commonwealth Games gold and 14th medal overall. Scott later missed the podium in the 4x200m freestyle relay and finished fourth in the 200m butterfly, which was won by Clareburt.

Alloa win Premier Sports Cup bonus point after Falkirk draw
Alloa Athletic drew 1–1 with Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup and secured an extra point by winning the penalty shoot-out 4–2. Sixteen-year-old Rangers loanee Kyle Glasgow scored the equaliser after Scott Tanser’s opener for Falkirk.
