Firefighters are clearing more than 85 million litres of water and heavy pump hoses used to tackle a wildfire that spread across New Forest heathland near Poulner Hill. A reduced firefighting presence remains in place to monitor hotspots, while National Highways repairs the A31, replaces safety barriers and fencing, and works toward reopening the route. Forestry England and Amphibian and Reptile Conservation staff and volunteers have rescued and relocated animals including sand lizards, slow worms and adders. The fire area remains an active incident, and the public has been urged to stay away.
