Man seen 'wielding crossbow' in Welsh city shot by police
Armed police shot a 21‑year‑old man in Newport after reports he was carrying a suspected crossbow and behaving threateningly. Officers provided first aid before he was taken to hospital in stable condition. Gwent Police said the incident was isolated and that firearms-related offences are rare in the area. The force has notified the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is conducting an initial assessment, and is appealing for witnesses or footage to assist the investigation.
