Five teenagers killed after car drives wrong way on M9 are pictured
Five teenagers—Kamil Pustkowski, Joey Carthy, Alex McCarthy, Jack Kennedy and Jeremy O’Brien—died after a stolen BMW was driven the wrong way along the M9 in County Kildare and collided with a Hyundai carrying a family travelling to Dublin Airport. What Caused a Man to Be Sucked Out of a Ryanair Plane Window Revealed
A preliminary NTSB report found that fragments from three fractured fan blades in the right engine of Malta Air Flight 1879 smashed a cabin window and caused depressurisation. Passenger Ljubiša Karović was partially pulled through the opening but was held inside by his wife, Svetlana Grković. Investigators linked the blade failures to deteriorated components and fasteners lacking enhancements recommended by an FAA directive, while bird remains were also found in the engine. The aircraft made an emergency descent and returned safely to Thessaloniki; Ryanair has declined to comment until the investigation concludes.

Doctor fired for botched operation that wrongly connected bowel into stomach
Dr Yasser Adly Abdel Rahman was removed from the UK medical register after a botched five-hour emergency operation at Royal Oldham Hospital connected the wrong section of a patient’s small bowel to his stomach, creating a closed loop that caused severe pain, vomiting and weeks without bowel movements. A subsequent surgeon corrected the error, which tribunal witnesses described as exceptionally serious and potentially fatal. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service found Rahman’s conduct fundamentally incompatible with continued registration. He also breached restrictions by taking a locum role at an Irish clinic without the required permission. The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust apologized and said it had introduced additional supervision and mentoring for locum consultants.

The Masonic Temple That’s Home to a ‘Watery Poltergeist’
Clifton Hall in Birkenhead, a Victorian property converted into a Masonic hall, has developed a reputation for paranormal activity. Betfred to close 132 stores and cut 600 jobs
Betfred will close 132 UK betting shops—more than a tenth of its high-street estate—and cut 600 jobs from September. Chief executive Jo Whittaker attributed the decision to higher employer national insurance contributions, wage inflation, increased gambling taxes, regulation and wider economic uncertainty. The closures follow tax measures including a rise in remote gaming duty from 21% to 40% and a planned 25% online sports-betting tax from 2027. Betfred says it will support affected employees and continue operating its remaining shops, while rivals Paddy Power and William Hill owner Evoke have also reduced their retail networks.

Pilot sues hotel after being bitten by 'rabies-infected' bats in bed
A 46-year-old pilot is suing Marriott after allegedly being bitten on the feet by bats while staying at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel during training. He says bats entered through a hole in the room’s air-conditioning system and that hotel staff did not move him after he reported the incident, instead advising him to receive rabies vaccinations. The treatment reportedly cost £100,000, and Marriott’s settlement offer was allegedly insufficient to cover the medical expenses. Lawyer Edward Lomena said the incident left the pilot fearing he had contracted the potentially fatal disease.

King Charles III sent Donald Trump and the American people congratulations on the 250th anniversary of US independence, emphasizing the enduring US-UK alliance, shared democratic values and cooperation across defense, trade, science, education and culture. His letter also highlighted joint responsibility for protecting the natural world. The message followed the King and Queen’s state visit to the United States in April, during which Charles addressed Congress and met Trump and Melania Trump. Trump launched the US celebrations with a Mount Rushmore speech that attacked political opponents, while a poll found many Americans thought the festivities had become overly political. Critics also said the Freedom 250 program placed disproportionate emphasis on Christian heritage while downplaying slavery and civil rights.
